How to detect discontinuities?
The discontinuity-based segmentation can be classified into three approaches: (1) Point detection, (2) Line detection, and (3) Edge detection. A point is the most basic type of discontinuity in a digital image. The most common approach to finding discontinuities is to run an (n n) mask over each point in the image.
What are discontinuities in signals?
The discontinuous signal consists of a slow sine wave abruptly followed by a medium sine wave. The first- and second-level details ( D 1 and D 2) show the discontinuity most clearly, because the rupture contains the high-frequency part.
How do you represent the signal?
Signals can also be represented by a magnitude and phase as a function of frequency. Signals that repeat periodically in time are represented by a power spectrum as illustrated in Figure 2.
