Such a FM wave has infinite bandwidth and hence called as wideband FM. The modulation index of wideband FM is higher than 1. The maximum permissible deviation is 75 kHz and it is used in the entertainment broadcasting applications such as FM radio, TV etc.

What is difference between NBFM & WBFM?

When spectrum efficiency is important, Narrowband FM (NBFM) is used but when better signal quality is required, Wideband FM (WBFM) is used at the expense of greater spectrum usage. The term WBFM is used in applications where the modulation index is equal to or larger than 1.

Wideband communication allows for a higher bandwidth and therefore for a faster communication. Wideband communication allows for spreading the signal to encrypt it (See: Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum and its derivates) wideband communication allows for notching out narrow noise sources in the spectrum (See OFDM)

Narrow-band frequency modulation is defined as >0.3. Between 30 Hz and 15 kHz is the maximum range of modulating frequencies. 75 kHz is the most significant frequency deviation value. This frequency modulation requires a broader bandwidth range than narrow-band frequency modulation, nearly 15 times larger.
