What is SRS used for in 5G?

SRS is Sounding Reference Signal is a reference signal transmitted by the UE in the uplink direction which is used by the eNodeB to estimate the uplink channel quality over a wider bandwidth. SRS is a UL reference signal which is transmitted by UE to the base station.

What is the purpose of SRS in LTE?

The SRS are physical signals transmitted in uplink to enable the eNB to estimate the CSI over a range of frequencies in LTE system. The estimation of the CSI assists the eNB scheduler to properly allocated radio resource to the UE. The SRS transmission can be also be used to support downlink beamforming.

What is SRS in telecom?

The Service Request System (SRS) is a one-stop shop for ordering and managing ITS telecommunications and infrastructure products and services like phone lines, phone features, and videoconferencing.

Why is there need for sounding reference signals?

Sounding Reference Signals

The SRS is used by the base station to estimate the quality of the uplink channel for large bandwidths outside the assigned span to a specific UE.
