What is clock period

What is clock period

The clock period or cycle time, Tc, is the time between rising edges of a repetitive clock signal. Its reciprocal, fc = 1/Tc, is the clock frequency. All else being the same, increasing the clock frequency increases the work that a digital system can accomplish per unit time.

What is clock period in pipelining?

For a pipeline, the clock cycle time should accommodate the longest hardware unit (ALU, 100ps) and a register (10ps). Thus, maximum clock frequency = 1/(110ps) = 9.09GHz.

What is clock cycle and clock rate?

The clock speed measures the number of cycles your CPU executes per second, measured in GHz (gigahertz). A “cycle” is technically a pulse synchronized by an internal oscillator, but for our purposes, they're a basic unit that helps understand a CPU's speed.

How long is a clock cycle?

To determine the length of a clock cycle, divide clock speed into 1. One clock cycle is 1 / ( 1 * 10^6 cycles/sec. ) or 1/1 * 1/(10^6 cycles/sec). 1 over a power flips the units and the sign is inverted, so 1/10^6 cycles/sec becomes 10^-6 secs/cycle.
