Understanding FFT for a vibrational analysis experiment
  1. What is FFT in vibration analysis?
  2. How Fourier series is used in vibration analysis?

What is FFT in vibration analysis?

The fast Fourier transform (FFT) is an efficient algorithm used to compute a discrete Fourier transform (DFT). This Fourier transform outputs vibration amplitude as a function of frequency so that the analyzer can understand what is causing the vibration.

How Fourier series is used in vibration analysis?

An improved Fourier series method has been developed for the free vibration analysis of three-dimensional coupled beams with arbitrary coupling angle. The displacement and rotation of the structure are expressed as the Fourier cosine series and closed-form auxiliary functions.
