What is TX EVM?

EVM is a comprehensive measure of the transmit quality because it reflects signal defects that affect the magnitude or phase of the transmitted symbol. It captures the sum of imperfections in the device implementation that impact the transmit symbol's accuracy.

How do you find the magnitude of an EVM error vector?

In general, EVM is calculated by finding the ideal constellation location for each received symbol, as shown in Figure 1b. The root means square (rms) of all error vector magnitudes between the received symbol locations and their closest ideal constellation locations constitute the EVM value of the device.

What affects EVM?

Informally, EVM is a measure of how far the points are from the ideal locations. Noise, distortion, spurious signals, and phase noise all degrade EVM, and therefore EVM provides a comprehensive measure of the quality of the radio receiver or transmitter for use in digital communications.
