  2. What is the importance of synchronized averaging?

What is synchronized averaging?

Averaging over uniform rotation angles or complete rotations, rather than averaging over more arbitrary time segments, rejects any noise, disturbance, or periodic signal content that is not coherent with the rotation. This rotation-based averaging is called time-synchronous averaging, or TSA.

What is the importance of synchronized averaging?

Time synchronous averaging (TSA) is one of the most efficient methods for gearbox diagnostics,35 it is used to eliminate noise by maintaining only the periodic waveforms and eliminating the non-periodic patterns which are related to noise (Figure 1).
