What are modes of a standing wave?
Normal Mode:
A mass on a spring has one natural frequency at which it freely oscillates up and down. A stretched string with fixed ends can oscillate up and down with a whole spectrum of frequencies and patterns of vibration. These special “Modes of Vibration” of a string are called standing waves or normal modes.
What are the two types of standing waves?
Stationary Wave: When two waves of the same frequency and amplitude moving with the same speed in the opposite direction along with the same path, these types of waves are known as Stationary waves. Two types of stationary waves are: Transverse stationary waves. Longitudinal stationary waves.
