How does speckle imaging work?

Speckle imaging describes a range of high-resolution astronomical imaging techniques based on the analysis of large numbers of short exposures that freeze the variation of atmospheric turbulence. They can be divided into the shift-and-add ("image stacking") method and the speckle interferometry methods.

What causes speckle in SAR images?

All radar images appear with some degree of what we call radar speckle. Speckle appears as a grainy "salt and pepper" texture in an image. This is caused by random constructive and destructive interference from the multiple scattering returns that will occur within each resolution cell.

What is speckle analysis?

Laser speckle contrast analysis (LASCA), also known as laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI), is a method that instantly visualizes microcirculatory tissue blood perfusion. It is an imaging technique that combines high resolution and high speed.

How do you measure speckle size?

Dainty derives an expression for the mean speckle size as λz/L where L is the width of the illuminated area and z is the distance between the object and the location of the speckle pattern.
