How is Sobel filter calculated?
The Sobel filter is used for edge detection. It works by calculating the gradient of image intensity at each pixel within the image. It finds the direction of the largest increase from light to dark and the rate of change in that direction.
How do you use a Sobel filter?
Apply the Sobel filter to the luminance plane L according to the horizontal direction and threshold its output. The pixels detected in this way are called vertical edge pixels. At each vertical edge pixel P, examine the luminance levels of pixels located on the same row as P in the luminance plane L.
