How do you reduce Sidelobes?

Sidelobe levels can be reduced by tapering the edges of the aperture distribution (changing from uniformity) at the expense of reduced directivity. The nulls between sidelobes occur when the radiation patterns passes through the origin in the complex plane.

What is side lobe cancellation?

Sidelobe cancellation is to use the interference signal received by the auxiliary antenna to suppress the directional interference coming in through the antenna sidelobe direction.

What is side lobe effect in maritime?

Side lobes are naturally occurring areas of transmitted energy that are part of virtually any transmitter used in marine electronics. Radar, echo sounders (fishfinders) and sonars all generate a "main beam", which is also known as the "main lobe".

What causes radar side lobes?

Side Lobes. The transmitted beam for typical meterological radars is not perfect - it is not a pencil beam like a laser is. if antenna is much larger than the wavelength of the transmitted radiation, the beam is much more focussed, like a laser. If this is not the case, you end up with Side Lobes.
