How does SC-FDMA work?

In SC-FDMA, the user symbols are first pre-coded using a DFT matrix, which spreads each subcarrier in the frequency domain, and then mapped to subcarriers prior to the Inverse Fast Fourier Transform (IFFT) operation. In SC-FDMA, the subcarriers are transmitted sequentially instead of in parallel as in OFDMA.

What is SC-FDMA in telecom?

A multiplexing technique similar to OFDMA but where the subcarriers assigned to each user must be contiguous, which reduces the processing power and battery requirements for mobile devices. See also OFDMA.

What is SC-FDMA in LTE?

Single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) is common choice for uplink of long term evolution (LTE) standard for broadband wireless communication. SC-FDMA is preferred for LTE uplink mainly due to its advantage of having low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) during signal transmission.

How does SC-FDMA differ from FDM?

It uses multiple RF carrier signals at different frequencies which sends some of the bits on each of the assigned channels. This seems to be similar to FDM but in case of OFDM, total subcarriers are divided into subchannels and these subchannels are mapped to one single data/traffic source.
