What are frequency harmonics?
A harmonic is a wave or signal whose frequency is an integral (whole number) multiple of the frequency of the same reference signal or wave. As part of the harmonic series, the term can also refer to the ratio of the frequency of such a signal or wave to the frequency of the reference signal or wave.
How do you reduce harmonics with an AC filter?
Shunt harmonic filters connected to the converter a.c. bus-bars provide a low impedance into which most of the harmonic currents are diverted. Shunt filters also generate reactive power at fundamental frequency providing some or all of the reactive power required by the converters.
