What is a Q-Q plot in Python?

When the quantiles of two variables are plotted against each other, then the plot obtained is known as quantile – quantile plot or qqplot. This plot provides a summary of whether the distributions of two variables are similar or not with respect to the locations.

What does a Q-Q plot tell you?

The quantile-quantile (q-q) plot is a graphical technique for determining if two data sets come from populations with a common distribution. A q-q plot is a plot of the quantiles of the first data set against the quantiles of the second data set.

Is a Q-Q plot a normal quantile plot?

This particular type of Q Q plot is called a normal quantile-quantile (QQ) plot. The points are not clustered on the 45 degree line, and in fact follow a curve, suggesting that the sample data is not normally distributed.

Why do we use histograms and Q-Q plots?

The ESDA tools (refer to Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis) help you examine the distribution of your data. When checking whether your data is normally distributed (close to a bell-shaped curve), the Histogram and Normal QQ Plots will help you.
