How does Imwarp work?

imwarp determines the value of pixels in the output image by mapping locations in the output image to the corresponding locations in the input image (an inverse mapping).

What is preserved in projective transformation?

Projective transformations do not preserve sizes or angles but do preserve incidence and cross-ratio: two properties which are important in projective geometry. A projective transformation can also be called a projectivity.
