Is point cloud a LiDAR?
Point cloud data is the term used to refer to the data points collected for a given geographical area, terrain, building or space. A LiDAR point cloud dataset is created when an area is scanned using light detection and ranging.
What is the advantage of point cloud?
Benefits of Point Cloud Technology
It provides an accurate way for project architects, engineers and construction teams to scan, build, and tweak 3D models or “digital twins” of physical locations that are incredibly detailed and interactive.
Is LiDAR and point cloud the same?
While LiDAR is a technology for making point clouds, not all point clouds are created using LiDAR. For example, point clouds can be made from images obtained from digital cameras, a technique known as photogrammetry. The one difference to remember that distinguishes photogrammetry from LiDAR is RGB.
