How Colour helps us in identification of objects?

We also found that color is important for the ability to recognize artifacts and natural objects, to recognize objects presented as types (line-drawings) or as tokens (photographs), and to recognize objects that are presented without surface details, such as texture or shadow.

How do you identify the color of an object?

Answer and Explanation: The color of an object is determined by which wavelengths of light it reflects. For example, plants appear green because they contain the pigment chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is green because it is designed to absorb all other wavelengths of light.

Does color matter in object detection?

We found, however, that under certain conditions, such as when shape is ambiguous, stored knowledge of color can help disambiguate the object. Based on these results, we argue that the contribution of perceptual color is small but that long-term color knowledge plays an important top-down role in object recognition.

Does Colour really matter evaluation via object classification?

The results show that colour is useful, but far from crucial for object classification. The error rate increases by only 12% for the grayscale case over the full-colour case.
