How does step detection work?
Most of the current step detection algorithms rely on counting the peaks as each peak represents a user stride. The distance is computed by multiplying the number of steps by a step length. However, step length varies even for the same user; therefore, fixed step length can lead to an error in distance estimation.
Can accelerometer count steps?
Steps can be counted using a pedometer, which often uses data from a hardware accelerometer as input.
What is a step change in statistics?
A step change occurs when a time-series of data moves from one stable state to another that is above or below the previous state and exceeds a threshold amount or percentage.
