Delay

Measurement delay versus control delay

Measurement delay versus control delay
  1. What is a control delay?
  2. What is approach delay?

What is a control delay?

Control delay is the portion of the total delay attributed to traffic signal operation for signalized intersections (TRB, 2000). Control delay (overall delay) can be categorized into deceleration delay, stopped delay and acceleration delay.

What is approach delay?

Approach delay is the delay experienced by a vehicle before entering the intersection. • Intersection delay is the additional travel time experienced by a vehicle after it enters the intersection and before it reaches free-flow speed.
