What is the output of matched filter?

If a filter produces an output in such a way that it maximizes the ratio of output peak power to mean noise power in its frequency response, then that filter is called Matched filter. This is an important criterion, which is considered while designing any Radar receiver.

What does a matched filter do?

The matched filter is the optimal linear filter for maximizing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the presence of additive stochastic noise. Matched filters are commonly used in radar, in which a known signal is sent out, and the reflected signal is examined for common elements of the out-going signal.

How do you find the matched filter response?

Impulse Response of Matched Filter

In the time domain, the output of filter receiver 'h(t)' can be obtained through applying the IFT or inverse Fourier transform of the frequency response function, H(f). We know the equation of H(f) = GaS* (f) e^-j2πft1, substitute this in the above equation.

How does matched filter increase SNR?

The matched filter improves the SNR by reducing the noise's spectral bandwidth to that of the wavelet, and in addition, reduces the noise within the wavelet's bandwidth by the shape of the wavelet's spectrum.
