Does changing pitch change speed?
Pitch scaling is the opposite: the process of changing the pitch without affecting the speed. Pitch shift is pitch scaling implemented in an effects unit and intended for live performance. Pitch control is a simpler process which affects pitch and speed simultaneously by slowing down or speeding up a recording.
Why does speeding up audio increase pitch?
Sounds are the result of air vibrating, and if they're reproduced at, say, twice the speed that they were originally recorded at, the vibrations hit our ear twice as many times per second – i.e. twice the original frequency, which makes them sound higher in pitch.
What happens when you slow down sound?
Slowing down a sound will make the wave length longer. If you make a sound half speed the wave length will double as you stretch the sound. As the wave length gets longer, the pitch gets lower. Thats why slowing down a sound will sound darker in pitch, and speeding up the sound will have the oposite effect.
