Laeq noise definition

Laeq noise definition

Equivalent Continuous Sound Pressure Level, or Leq/LAeq, is the constant noise level that would result in the same total sound energy being produced over a given period. LAeq is a fundamental measurement parameter designed to represent a varying sound source over a given time as a single number.

What is LAeq and LAmax?

Definition. LAeq Means the equivalent continuous (time averaged) A-weighted sound level. This is commonly referred to as the average noise level. LAmax Means the A-weighted maximum noise level. The highest noise level which occurs during a measurement period.

How is LAeq calculated?

A good Leq sound level meter samples and 'captures' the noise levels 16 times a second which means over an hour it makes 16 x 60 x 60 = 57600 calculations, not difficult for a modern meter but quite an achievement a few years back.

What does LCeq mean?

LCE : C-weighted, sound exposure level. LCeq : C-weighted, Leq (equivalent continuous sound level) LCF : C-weighted, fast response, sound level. LCFmax : C-weighted, fast response, maximum, sound level - note: maximum is not peak.

Is LEQ and LAeq the same?

Leq (equivalent continuous sound level) is the sound level in decibels, having the same total sound energy as the fluctuating level measured. Leq is also known as the time-average sound level (LAT). LAeq is the A-weighted Leq sound level.
