We check a solution to an equation by replacing the variable in the equation with the value of the solution. A solution should result in a true statement when simplified.

The usual preposition to use with solution is to, not of: ✗ The role of the government is to find the solution of this problem. ✓ The role of the government is to find the solution to this problem.
Is solution same as answer?
An answer is a response to a question and it may not be correct. A solution is a correct answer that fully satisfies the question.
