What is IMU filter?
FILTERING OF IMU DATA USING KALMAN FILTER. by. Naveen Prabu Palanisamy. Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) is a component of the Inertial Navigation System (INS), a navigation device used to calculate the position, velocity and orientation of a moving object without external references.
What is IMU used for?
As you've seen, IMUs are used to measure acceleration, angular velocity and magnetic fields, and, when combined with sensor fusion software, they can be used to determine motion, orientation and heading. They're found in many applications across consumer electronics and the industrial sector.
Why use a Kalman filter with IMU?
It is more akin to a "recursive estimator." The Kalman filter is most valuable in systems where a predicted location can be more useful than an otherwise unfiltered noisy solution that could have positional error. The Kalman filter estimates orientation angles using all of the sensor axis contributions within the IMU.
What is IMU in missile?
An Inertial Measurement Unit, commonly known as an IMU, is an electronic device that measures and reports orientation, velocity, and gravitational forces through the use of accelerometers and gyroscopes and often magnetometers.
