What is ambiguity function in radar?

The radar ambiguity function is defined as the absolute value of the envelope of the output of a matched filter when the input to the filter is a Doppler-shifted version of the original signal, to which the filter was matched. Ambiguity functions are usually analyzed on a single pulse basis.

What is Doppler ambiguity?

In pulse radar, the modulation of the carrier frequency is a periodic sequence of rectangular pulses. The frequency spectrum of the transmitted signal is a comb-shaped line spectrum. The line spacing of the spectrum is equal to the Pulse Repetition Frequency fPRF or PRF.

What causes range ambiguity?

In Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging, range ambiguity is caused by the echoes of the previous and latter transmitted pulses scattered from undesired range zones [1].

What is range Doppler coupling?

Slight Doppler mismatches for the LFM pulse do not change the general shape of the pulse and reduce the amplitude very little, but they do appear to shift the pulse in time. Thus, an uncompensated Doppler shift changes the target's apparent range; this phenomenon is called range-Doppler coupling.
