How do I know if a WAV file is mono or stereo?
Our first trick is by looking at the waveforms of each channel. If the waveforms are exactly the same, chances are the recording was mono. If there are obvious differences between the waveforms of each channel, you're dealing with a stereo file.
Is a WAV file mono?
With WAV mono (monophonic) as the file type, the audio recorder will generate separate data files for each individual track recorded. Many DAWs and audio programs are able to import WAV Poly files directly or to split them up into their component mono WAV files.
Does WAV have stereo?
The WAV audio format was developed by Microsoft and has become one of the primary formats of uncompressed audio. It stores audio at about 10 MB per minute at a 44.1 kHz sample rate using stereo 16-bit samples.
