Guard Interval in OFDM

Guard Interval in OFDM

The standard symbol guard interval used in IEEE 802.11 OFDM is 0.8 μs.

What is the purpose of the guard interval?

Guard Interval is intended to avoid signal loss from multipath effect. In wireless transmission, RF signals reach the receiving antenna by two or more paths, if the latter information symbol reaches the antenna too fast, signal may interfere with the earlier symbol (means signal degradation).

What is guard interval in wireless?

The guard interval is the space between symbols (characters) being transmitted. This is often confused with the space between packets, which is the inter-frame space (IFS). The guard interval is there to eliminate inter-symbol interference, which is referred to as ISI.

What is 11n guard interval?

Guard Interval (802.11n/ac/ax/be)

The Guard Interval is the ratio of the Cyclic Prefix "CP1) Contention period, or 2) Cyclic prefix" time to the inverse FFT. See Spectrum. time "T(IFFTInverse Fast Fourier Transform)." The Guard Interval is used to eliminate inter-symbol and inter-carrier interference.

Should I disable short guard interval?

Short GI: disabled - Short Guard Interval decreases the time between data characters being sent wirelessly. In an optimal radio environment that could increase throughput but in less than optimal conditions it will instead lead to errors, retransmissions, instability and decreased performance.
