What is early late gate?

The early/late gate synchronizer megafunction is fundamentally a digital phase- locked loop (DPLL). The synchronizer is designed to provide phase lock between an internally generated data clock and an input data stream. Moreover, it can perform the traditional task of providing phase lock between two clocks.

The purpose of timing recovery is to recover a clock at the symbol rate or a multiple of the symbol rate from the modulated waveform. This clock is required to convert the continuous- time received signal into a discrete-time sequence of data symbols.

What is symbol synchronization?

-For symbol synchronization, it is a square wave at the symbol transition rate (the receiver must be able to produce a square wave for each incoming signals transitions between symbols). A receiver that is able to do this can be said to have symbol synchronization, or to be in symbol lock.
