Difference between precoding and beamforming

The term precoding refers more to a software implementation of communication theory, and beamforming refers more to the hardware implementation and the antennas in the system. And precoding generally refers to the transmitter side, while beamforming can be applied to both transmitters and receivers.

  5. Why precoding is used in MIMO?

What is precoding in beamforming?

Precoding is a generalization of beamforming to support multi-stream (or multi-layer) transmission in multi-antenna wireless communications.

What is the difference between MIMO and beamforming?

MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) antennas operate by breaking high data rate signals into multiple lower data rate signals in Tx mode that are recombined at the receiver. Beamforming arrays are inherently different from MIMO in that the multiple columns of dipoles work together to create a single high gain signal.

What are the difference between pre coding and post coding?

Questionnaire data can be pre-coded (process of assigning codes to expected answers on designed questionnaire), field-coded (process of assigning codes as soon as data is available, usually during fieldwork), post-coded (coding of open questions on completed questionnaires) or office-coded (done after fieldwork).

What is the advantage of precoding?

Precoding enables the reduction of interference among co-channel beams through spatial processing while promoting aggressive frequency reuse and improving spectral efficiency. Satellite systems offer multitude of system and service configurations, resulting in different precoder design methodologies.

Why precoding is used in MIMO?

Precoding is a process used at the transmitter end to weight the information stream depending on the CSI [5]. Precoding helps in shifting the hardware complexity to the base station from the transmitting mobile station. In MIMO systems, to achieve better system performance, the information of complete CSI is required.
