Difference between Gabor and log-Gabor function
  1. What are log Gabor filter and why are they good?
  2. Why Gabor filter is used?

What are log Gabor filter and why are they good?

The Log-Gabor filter is able to describe a signal in terms of the local frequency responses. Because this is a fundamental signal analysis technique, it has many applications in signal processing. Indeed, any application that uses Gabor filters, or other wavelet basis functions may benefit from the Log-Gabor filter.

Why Gabor filter is used?

Gabor filters are used as detectors of small, localized cloud stretches or blobs in the satellite image. As these detectors are localized, a large number of Gabor filters are used to cover the whole image (the exact number depends on the size of the image and the size of each filter's receptive field).
