What does a Costas loop do?

The Costas loop locks to the center frequency of a signal and downconverts it to baseband. When order=2: used for BPSK where the real part of the output signal is the baseband BPSK signal and the imaginary part is the error signal.

What type of feedback is used in Costas loop and why?

Fig 1 -- In the basic phase-locked loop structure the system relies on feedback formed by mixing a reference signal with a received waveform. received signal are equal in phase and frequency they are locked in sync.

How does frequency locked loop work?

Frequency Locked Loop (FLL): In an FLL, a Frequency Error Detector (FED) generates an error signal corresponding to the difference in frequency between a reference and an output waveform to drive the loop similar to a PLL.
