Continuous and discrete-time signals

A continuous-time signal has values for all points in time in some (possibly infinite) interval. A discrete time signal has values for only discrete points in time. Signals can also be a function of space (images) or of space and time (video), and may be continuous or discrete in each dimension.

What are CT and DT signals?

Discrete-Time Signal Processing

For historical reasons, CT signals are often called analog signals. If the domain of definition for s(t) is restricted to a set of discrete points tn = nT, where n is an integer and T is the sampling period, the signal s(tn) is called a discrete-time (DT) signal.

What is continuous-time signal with example?

This (a signal) will have some value at every instant of time. The electrical signals derived in proportion with the physical quantities such as temperature, pressure, sound etc. are generally continuous signals. Other examples of continuous signals are sine wave, cosine wave, triangular wave etc.

What is a discrete time signal?

A discrete-time signal is a sequence of values that correspond to particular instants in time. The time instants at which the signal is defined are the signal's sample times, and the associated signal values are the signal's samples.

What's a continuous-time signal?

A continuous-time signal is an infinite and uncountable sequence of numbers, as are the possible values each number can have. between a start and end time, there are infinite possible values for time and the waveform's instantaneous amplitude .
