  1. What is the relationship between information and entropy?
  2. Does entropy affect information?
  3. What is the relevance of the concept of entropy in your life?
  4. Is entropy proportional to information?

What is the relationship between information and entropy?

Information provides a way to quantify the amount of surprise for an event measured in bits. Entropy provides a measure of the average amount of information needed to represent an event drawn from a probability distribution for a random variable.

Does entropy affect information?

No, information is conserved, and so does not increase. Entropy is incrasing and this means that the evolution goes from ordered universe towards disordered universe, so exacly the contrary of what you are saying. Entropy is equivalent to disorder, or uniform information.

What is the relevance of the concept of entropy in your life?

Entropy is simply a measure of disorder and affects all aspects of our daily lives. In fact, you can think of it as nature's tax. Left unchecked disorder increases over time. Energy disperses, and systems dissolve into chaos. The more disordered something is, the more entropic we consider it.

Is entropy proportional to information?

The amount of information it takes to describe something is proportional to its entropy. Once you have the equations (“I = log2(N)” and “E = k log(N)”) this is pretty obvious.
