Coherent Sampling vs Windowing for 50/60 applications
  1. What is coherent sampling?
  2. Why coherent sampling?

What is coherent sampling?

Coherent sampling describes the sampling of a periodic signal, where an integer number of its cycles fit into a predefined sampling window. Mathematically, this can be expressed as: fIN/fSAMPLE = NWINDOW/NRECORD, fIN: Periodic input signal. fSAMPLE: Sampling/clock frequency of the ADC under test.

Why coherent sampling?

This technique is a method that can be used to get the best possible ADC characterization results. In other words, coherent sampling eliminates error sources related to the discrete nature of the FFT and allows characterization of high performance data converters.
