How is a camera calibrated?

The process of computing the camera parameters is called camera calibration. Generally, the camera calibration process uses images of a 3D object with a geometrical pattern (e.g. checker board). The pattern is called the calibration grid. The 3D co-ordinates of the pattern are matched to 2D image points.

What is lidar camera calibration?

Lidar-camera calibration consists of converting the data from a lidar sensor and a camera into the same coordinate system. This enables you to fuse the data from both sensors and accurately identify objects in a scene.

Can a camera measure depth?

Stereo depth cameras also often project infrared light onto a scene to improve the accuracy of the data, but unlike coded or structured light cameras, stereo cameras can use any light to measure depth.

How do cameras detect depth?

A structured light-based depth sensing camera uses a laser/LED light source to project light patterns (mostly a striped one) onto the target object. Based on the distortions obtained, the distance to the object can be calculated. A structured light 3D scanner is often used to reconstruct the 3D model of an object.
