What is acoustic calibration?

A Sound Level Calibrator or Acoustic Calibrator is a hand-held device that emits an audible tone of very accurate level and frequency. Before making noise measurements the Calibrator is fitted over the meter's microphone and the reading is either checked manually by the user or automatically by the meter.

Do sound meters need to be calibrated?

Calibration of your sound level meter by its manufacturer manufacturer is something I recommended annually. Some regulations (like the 2005 Control of Noise at Work Regulations) state that a sound level meter should be returned every two years and the acoustic calibrator every year.

How do you calibrate a sound calibrator?

Turn on the sound calibrator by pressing the 'ON' button. If your device calibrates to multiple sound levels, set it to 94dB. Place the calibrator over the sound probe head. Enter the sound level calibration mode on the LM8102 by pressing the 'HOLD' and 'MAX/MIN' button at the same time.
