Calculation of Reverberation Time (RT60) by interrupted noise method
  1. How is RT60 time calculated?
  2. What is reverberation time RT60?
  3. How do you calculate impulse response from RT60?

How is RT60 time calculated?

How is RT60 measured? In order to measure RT60, the room must first be energized with noise. This can be done by popping a balloon or using a dodecahedral speaker or other sound source. A sound level meter with special room acoustics options measures the time for the sound level to decay and reports the result.

What is reverberation time RT60?

Reverberation time, or RT60, is a metric which describes the length of time taken for a sound to decay by 60 dB from its original level. Optimal reverberation times vary depending on room volume, intended use of the space and the frequency of transmitted sound.

How do you calculate impulse response from RT60?

RT60 Calculation

The RT60 values are estimated by calculating the slope of the Schroeder curve, which is a plot of the energy (squared values) of the impulse response that is backwards integrated (summed starting from the end and moving backwards). The vertical axis of the plot is in dB.
