How much tension should a belt have?
Belts that are too tight put an excessive load on pulleys, shafts, and bearings. Excessive belt tension will also wear out a belt quickly. Proper belt tension is 1/2 inch of sideplay both ways. Press down on the belt midway between pulleys and observe the travel.
What is belt frequency?
What is a Belt Frequency? Definition: A belt frequency is a rate at which a belt completes a full complete cycle of its length. In other words, it's a measure of the time it takes to travel the full length of the belt.
How do you measure belt frequency?
One way to measure the natural frequency of a belt is to use Carlisle's Frequency-Finder™. The Frequency- Finder uses a laser sensor to measure the frequency of a vibrating belt. This frequency can then be compared to the recommended frequency calculated with the software that accompanies the instrument.
