AWGN interpretation of bit error rate in time domain

AWGN interpretation of bit error rate in time domain
  1. Why does BER decrease as SNR increases?
  2. What is the difference between BER and SNR?
  3. What is AWGN channel and why it is used?

Why does BER decrease as SNR increases?

A low SNR will have an increased BER. Put simply a strong signal is better than a weak one and has less chance of errors. The reason error increases with SNR is because of noise. The closer you get to the noise floor for your band (about -100dBm at 2.4GHz), the more unstable and unpredictable things become.

What is the difference between BER and SNR?

SNR is logarithmic ratio of received signal and noise power, while BER is the measure of incorrect bit identification probability.

What is AWGN channel and why it is used?

An AWGN channel adds white Gaussian noise to the signal that passes through it. You can create an AWGN channel in a model using the comm. AWGNChannel System objectâ„¢, the AWGN Channel block, or the awgn function.
