What are the characteristics of edge pixels?

Edge pixels are selected by an individual k whose fitness is evaluated by matching results for learning images. The fitness is evaluated by two parameters. The one parameter VS(k) means the ratio between the maximum voted value and the second voted value.

What are the basic edge descriptors?

• Edge descriptors

Edge normal: unit vector in the direction of maximum intensity change. Edge direction: unit vector to perpendicular to the edge normal. Edge position or center: the image position at which the edge is located. Edge strength: related to the local image contrast along the normal.

How derivatives are used for edge detection?

In this method we take the 1st derivative of the intensity value across the image and find points where the derivative is maximum then the edge could be located. The gradient is a vector, whose components measure how rapid pixel value are changing with distance in the x and y direction.
