8-bit vs 10-bit vs 12-bit
  1. Is 8-bit 10-bit or 12-bit better?
  2. Is 12-bit better than 8bit?
  3. Does 8-bit look better than 10bit?
  4. Are there any 12-bit displays?

Is 8-bit 10-bit or 12-bit better?

In a 10-bit system, you can produce 1024 x 1024 x 1024 = 1,073,741,824 colors which is 64 times of the colors of the 8-bit. What is more shocking is that a 12-bit system is able to produce a whopping 4096 x 4096 x 4096 = 68,719,476,736 colors!

Is 12-bit better than 8bit?

That “bit” depth refers to the colour range available in the encoding format. The 12 bit gives a larger range and tends to give better accuracy of colours in the final video. But it also means the video file would likely be larger. And it would take a longer time to calculate if your hardware is constant.

Does 8-bit look better than 10bit?

While 10-bit reaches 1024 colors per channel, 8-bit will only reach 256 per channel. This means that 8-bit files will display 16.7 million colors, while 10-bit will display about 1.07 billion, which is a lot more!

Are there any 12-bit displays?

Description. BXM-243T3G is a high-end 12-bit video processing monitor which can display multiple color space with its 3D LUT.
